“This team is full of warriors who will fight until the very end.”

Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw away at Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Above everything else, this team is full of warriors who will fight until the very end under the most extreme of circumstances. We have players who have not trained all week who give their all on a Saturday and players who will run themselves into the ground. Those 9 plus substitutes showed what grit and determination is and any manager and supporter would be so proud to have such players playing for them.

2. We have players who will do whatever is asked of them by our management team even if it is alien to them. James Wilson is a case in point. I have seen him this season play Centre Back, Right Back, Centre Midfield and now centre forward. Akinde had to play as a holding midfielder for virtually half the game. Players want to perform for our management.

3. We may be becoming victims of our own success. It has been discussed on this forum and elsewhere how we try and get that extra edge in games and this can only have been noted by others including opposition players and referees. Last season Matt Rhead didn’t get some free kicks because of his perceived and reported style of play. Is this happening again with referees having a pre-conceived idea of how we are? I specifically think this might be the case with how a number of our players are considered by other teams as moaners who are always in the ear of the referee and linesmen. Yesterday it appears the referee gave an early warning that he wasn’t going to tolerate this even before it had done so. Later Shackell gets a second yellow for dissent. The two could be linked. Perhaps we need to reconsider our on-field interaction with the officials.
