Thank you to Tranmere Rovers supporter Alex for answering our questions!

How long have you supported Tranmere Rovers?

Around 40 years.

Where did you finish last season?

2nd in the National League. Won the play-off.

What do you think of your Manager?

Micky Mellon’s a good fit for us. Played for the club, good rapport with the fans and tries to get us playing attacking football.

What are your hopes and expectations for this season?

The primary goal is to stay up, which is looking good, a Cup run would be welcome. Think we’re a few players short of a playoff push

One(s) to watch?

James Norwood obviously. Jonny Smith, a winger on loan from Bristol City offers something different, but needs to build stamina to last the full 90 minutes.

Who do you think will finish in the top 7?

Lincoln City, Exeter City, Newport County, Colchester United, Swindon Town, Milton Keynes and Port Vale.

Who do you think will finish in the bottom 2?

Macclesfield Town and Cheltenham Town.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

Rightly amongst promotion favourites. You’ve changed squad so much since NL days will be interesting to see how you play now. The Cowley’s created a good footballing side at Braintree and I’m sure are capable of doing similar with Lincoln.

What do you think the score will be?

1-2.

What will your likely default formation and style of play be for this season?

We’re mostly playing 442 or 4411 at present, but have the squad capable of playing with wing-backs in a 532.

Random fact about your Club?

The only FL club with a Norwegian Viking name; Tranmere translates as crane’s bank.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Akinde (or failing that Rhead). We desperately need a target man type of striker.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Tranmere Rovers Supporter?

Proudest was the playoff win against Boreham Wood playing nearly all the game with 10 men. Most embarrassing is probably the handful of so-called fans, idiots who tarnish the reputation of our club.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Connor Jennings. Still picks a pass and puts in a shift playing out of position on the wing.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

Yes. There is a Trust member on the club board of directors and they also run the beer tent on match days, which has been a great success.

Which was your favourite match involving Tranmere Rovers?

The 1-1 draw with Crewe last day of the season in the then Division 4, near full ground, great atmosphere as both sides get promoted.

Which was your least favourite match involving Tranmere Rovers?

Losing 6-1 at Hull. Both of our keepers crocked by half-time and Theo Whitmore, a midfielder in the net second half, didn’t even try to stop them.

Do you get fed up of people calling you scousers?

My Dad was a scouser, so not that bothered. Some of the scouse stereotypes used are a bit tedious though.

How do you feel your team are doing settling back into EFL football again? What do you put your rapid demise down to?

This Rovers side is much stronger than the one that got relegated 3 years ago. Could write an essay on our demise, but lack of investment and wrong appointments as manager from the time Ronnie Moore was sacked for the betting are key.

What do you think of the nickname that other fans often give you: The Trannies?

Think Ian St John started it on The Saint and Greavsie, when they used to highlight Tranmere Friday night games, so the original intention was affectionate.

Does James Norwood still miss, on average, 3 one-on-ones a game?

Lol. Nors is lucky to get a single one-on-one these days but tends to be more clinical.

You surprisingly signed ex-Imp Jake Caprice in the summer. How’s he done?

Jake always played well against Rovers for Woking and Orient. He’s settled in ok but lost his place to Adam Buxton through injury.
