Following the 1-0 defeat at home against Rotherham United in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learnt from the match.

Here’s what Joe (Rasenimp) said:
1. We learnt that we…. don’t seem to really be learning as a team? Both at Shrewsbury and the game today, we end up sucked into playing how the opposition would like the game to go. Smashing it up to Makama on the diagonals, playing some of the game at a snail’s pace, not finding a way to play football on the deck… very much playing into the opposition’s hands. The substitutions seemed to compound problems rather than make us better. Our performance was effectively a worse, less well targeted version of how they play.
2. We learnt that things are turning a bit sour, both on and off the pitch. The reaction to the Moylan and Cadamarteri substitutions was pretty loud and clear, as was the lack of atmosphere throughout the game and finally the response at full time. A few times you could see players gesturing to each other or arguing a little bit. It’s not a happy camp, this is an extended run of bad form and things need to turn round sooner rather than later.
3. We had a reminder that we are a worse team without Ethan Erhahon. In the away game he managed to get his foot on the ball and start us playing a bit, and I think we were the better side second half away at their place but just poor from set pieces. But Hamilton and McGrandles seem ill suited to build our play up through the third in the way Erhahon does… they might run around a bit and try and pick up second balls but when we tried to pass into midfield there was hesitation and almost let Rotherham in. Hamilton is finding his feet again after injury but hasn’t really looked like the same player to me bar perhaps Crawley in the cup? We didn’t see him take charge or carry the ball like he can, and the midfield balance didn’t seem right without Erhahon in there.
