Following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away at Southend United in League One, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what kickingimp said:

1. When 5 of the starting 11 are new signings (for the sake of argument I am including Max in this) and there has been little training time due to Saturday/Tuesday matches, then players are going to struggle to be on the same wavelength, which will explain why players struggle to find each other on the pitch and why set-pieces aren’t working.

2. Despite all the doom and gloom merchants and other keyboard warriors writing off the team the manager etc, I believe there were enough flashes of quality to show us a glimpse of what this team can become. It will take time and I personally have set the Burton game as when I will judge the team (after the two-week break thanks to Bury).

3. The change of style is still bedding in and the experienced professionals will take longer to adjust their ways than fresh young academy players who have been brought up playing out from the back. But the experienced professionals will have to adapt or they will be replaced. The two new kids are a direct challenge to Shackell and Bolger to improve in the style of play MA wants.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
