“There is no need to be worried about the step up to League One.”

|

Following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away at Doncaster Rovers in Sky Bet League One, we asked our members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. Route one can always be effective. The brilliant work of Ennis for Doncaster’s first goal was only possible because a long boot upfield gave him space and time to get the ball under control and get his shot off before Lincoln could close him down.

2. The football pitch and in particular the penalty areas move at the Keepmoat. When Jorge Grant was fouled in the first half he was inside the penalty area, but by the time the referee blew his whistle to penalise the offence, that part of the pitch had moved outside the box. If there was any doubt about this phenomenon the exact same thing happened at the other end of the pitch, this time when Bruno Andrade was pulled back inside the box. At least that’s the only logical reason I can come up with as to why Lincoln were not awarded two penalties on Saturday.

3. You can do lots of good things in a match but they may well come to nought if you don’t defend properly. As further evidence of the strange nature of the Keepmoat, Grant was unable to locate the stand with the ball at his feet when very basic defending was required.

And here’s what Brendan Bradley said:

1. There is no need to be worried about the step up to League One, the team will take care of itself. Whether it will end up in the dreaded “C” word (that’s Consolidation), or somewhere around the play-off positions, remains to be seen

2. Danny and Nicky Cowley are going to be just as popular with opposing fans this season as they have been in League 2 and the National League.

3. I watch games on iFollow. For that, the usual commentary is BBC radio and Michael Hortin. He’s ok, but it’s nice sometimes to know who the hell on the opposition has the ball. For that reason, I didn’t use my subscription this week and picked up the Doncaster iFollow on IPTV instead. Their guy identified ALL our players correctly, knew lots about them, and obviously knew who was playing for Rovers. At a game itself, it doesn’t matter but on TV or PC, it’s better to have a proper commentary. The difference is stark.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
