“The right strike partnership could prove decisive.”

|

Ahead of tonight’s match against Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two, we asked our members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what Scotimp said:

1. Play the right combination up front. Rhead and Akinde were very good together at Forest Green but less effective since then. Rhead was taken off at half time against Oldham, suggesting that the experiment may not become the norm. Rowe’s second-half performance adds credence to that. Mansfield have defensive injuries: the experienced Matt Preston is definitely out, and central partner Ryan Sweeney is also likely to miss the game after suffering concussion last week. That will make them weaker down the spine, and that is why the right strike partnership could prove decisive. The selection of either Rhead or Rowe could depend on who replaces Preston and Sweeney.

2. Around half of Mansfield’s goals have been scored by two players – Tyler Walker and CJ Hamilton. They have won only two games all season (and only once since October) when either Hamilton or Walker has not scored, suggesting a real dependence on them. Keep those two out of the game, and statistics show they are very unlikely to beat us.

3. This one is relatively ethereal but does exist. Champions have a look about them, they play with confidence and a certain swagger. Manchester City have it in abundance, Liverpool do not. It is visible and intimidating. Ride the wave of champion support and believe we are the best in the division – the league table says we are, and it doesn’t lie. We are nearly there – let’s get it done as soon as possible.
