Views from berksimps following Saturday’s 2-1 win away at Forest Green Rovers in Sky Bet League Two: “Make no mistake, that was a great display from a hardworking team that were at it from the start and remained the better side throughout.

John Akinde (MOM) had his most confident game since Exeter, he loved working off Rheady, scored a powerful well-directed header and another of his worryingly good penalties. He was all over the park and might have had a hat trick. But it wasn’t just about one man, without exception, every one of them played their part. Rheady just lapped it up, winning every header he went for, and displaying his deft skills; their keeper made a brilliant stop from one of his headers. Gilks also made a couple of good saves and was only beaten by what appeared to be a wicked deflection. At the back Shackell won everything and cleared up for others, Eardley had regained his composure and Toffolo and Andrade perfected a double act that was always a threat.

There were no real concerns, even in added time. Anderson provided the pace missing on Tuesday and was not scared to tackle. The substitutes seamlessly fitted into the game plan, particularly Pett showing great skills and forward thinking.

Carry that on and we will end the season as Champions. And John Akinde, take a bow: you were magnificent.”

More views from the Match Thread:

Gaz_Imp: “As a fully subscribed member to the Big John fan club delighted for him. 13 league goals now, that equals the amount Green got last season who was our top scorer in the league. Akinde and Rhead could certainly be way forward.

Sounded like a very good performance all round.”

StrangelyBrown: “Been back a short while (and had a curry which needed eating and digesting).

Today was my 35th game of the season with the Imps and that was the best I have seen them play so far this season.

We were immense today- some of the football was exceptional, Akinde was like a caged lion who had been released. O’Hara again showed what he could become for us, Shacks and Bozzie kept Doidge persona non grata all game.

We were completely on it today- nothing more to add. Very very happy indeed.”

Imps2018: “I think that was as close to a perfect game as you’re going to get in League Two. They’re a decent side for this level, perhaps not cut out for League 1 but will likely finish playoffs.

Although can someone explain to me, why they continued to try and kick high in the first half. They play on top of a hill, in a small stadium where the wind will take effect on any ball in the air. Every time it went up in the air, the wind caught it and gave Shackell and Bostwick more time to push up the pitch and get under the ball which then sent us attacking again. Gilks tried to keep his kicking much flatter (almost backfiring at one point).

Our weakness was when Williams got in the whole behind the midfield and ran at our defence. This was stopped by O’Connor dropping deeper and from that moment we dominated them.

In the end, we could have won that by 4 or 5. Their keeper made some good stops, we could have had 2 more penalties (Akinde and Anderson), the small decisions seemed to go against us most of the time (although should trust the ref on this) and we wasted a couple of chances.”
