Ahead of Wednesday night’s match at home against Sunderland in the first leg of the League One Play-Offs, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to win.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Take the chances which present themselves. These two games I expect to be quite tight. Chances will be at a premium. We need to make sure that we put ours away. In the last game of the regular season against Wimbledon, we played really well I thought. We got behind them in the wide positions and made some decent chances. They weren’t taken though, and that will be the difference between us and them over the two legs. Make sure that you have your finishing boots on when you take to the pitch.

2. Relax and play your natural game. It will be tense as in effect this is a semi-final and nerves can only be expected. We are however slight underdogs both for this two-legged affair and in the Play-Offs overall. After the initial wailing and gnashing of teeth, should we not prevail we would still have had a magnificent season. The pressure is all on Sunderland, who despite their success in the Pizza Trophy, will see this season as a complete failure if they do not get promoted. So we can take advantage of what just might be that extra bit of pressure on them. If we play our natural game we are more than a match for any team in this division, and by applying that extra pressure upon our opponents we can get them to make wrong decisions.

3. Supporters can make a difference. This will be the first time this team has played in front of Lincoln supporters. I think that this may just have helped this young team gel in the early part of the season. Young players are affected by groans and boos from the terrace, and those who have been fortunate enough to have obtained tickets for the match need to think about this before they vent their spleens should an early pass go astray. Get behind the lads. They deserve it after the season they have given us.
