Ahead of next Wednesday night’s match away at Sunderland in the Semi-Final of the EFL Trophy, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to make it to the final.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Play the first team. Up to this game, I wasn’t too bothered about this competition. We have bigger fish to now fry and it could have been seen as a competition that we just didn’t really need. So in previous rounds when rotation was the name of the game, if that hadn’t have worked then we’d be in the ‘bigger picture’ discussion and all would have been more than happy to take that and move on. I certainly would have. But we are now down to the last four. A semi-final with a Wembley appearance 90 minutes away. Now I get that there will be many supporters who will say still what’s the point when supporters won’t be allowed there and I will be as disappointed over this aspect as the rest. But for the players and our board, it will still be a big day. A chance to win some silverware. A chance of a winners medal. We’ll still be able to watch our team play in a final on the hallowed turf, just not physically present. So play your very best players and that opportunity will be that bit easier to achieve.

2. Score first. I think that the statistics bear out just how important it is that we get our noses ahead in matches. Yes, we have come back and won a handful of games this season when conceding first, but when we score first we have bar the Bristol Rovers game not lost. We score first we win. Simple as that.

3. Corners and Set Pieces. Still a part of our game which needs tweaking. Delivery from dead ball situations can be a major part in winning a game and ours of late have been below standard. Get them right and again we’ll win.
