Views from Merthyr Imp following last night’s 3-1 win away at Sunderland: “Well, that wasn’t bad!

As with last Saturday, not a weak link all over the pitch. Griffiths, though, while unlucky not to have saved the penalty and making two fine saves, it was a bit concerning that he twice made a mess of dealing with high balls, luckily one was offside and he was saved by Poole for the other – turning point of the match?

I thought Maguire’s non-celebration after scoring the penalty was brilliant!

As Michael Appleton said, we could/should have had more than three goals as Sunderland looked almost as ordinary as Oxford – or, of course, we made them look that way.

So, without wishing to re-open the earlier debate about what is or isn’t a free hit (as I couldn’t follow most of it), with three points gained today does that make next Saturday a free hit?

Our first away win over Sunderland since 1959.”

PerthImp: “OMG – what a result. What a performance. Every single player played their part and completely snuffed Sunderland out. On the attack, we were what we haven’t been for months – clinical. On to Cambridge, where we really need to consolidate and get the three points to head towards the 50 points 🤔. Brilliant Imps 👏👏.”

Chesterimp: “Wow, just wow. That was magnificent. One for the ‘best ever away performances’ list.

Executed a well-thought-out game plan brilliantly, considering the number of first-choice players missing or playing out of position, still buzzing today from Saturday’s performance and now this.

Well done MA and his assistants, well done the lads on the pitch, monumental one and all.”

hulloutpost: “That was a coming of age performance if ever there was one. A tactical masterclass from MA first half, carried out by the players to a man. Awesome level ****housery from the entire side (7 yellows ) and exactly what was needed from a young side who refused to take a step backwards and took plenty forwards!

Scored the goals at good times but didn’t buckle either. Great decision-making, passion, good football, some quality at times. Did they learn from the first half there last year; I think they did and then some .”
