Stevenage 0-1 Lincoln City: Three Things We Learnt

|

Here’s what West Sussex Imp said:

1. Stevenage. Now in their 15th season as a League club and throughout that time, under the management of Westley, Maamria and Evans, their approach has consistently been what might generously be called “uncomplicated”. Revill’s iteration yesterday looks like the worst of the lot. If Steve Borthwick was watching yesterday, a few of their players might have put themselves in contention for a call-up to the training squad for Twickenham’s autumn internationals.

2. Standard of refereeing. On yesterday’s evidence, and from what I’ve seen on TV over the past 3 weeks, this shows no sign of improvement. David Rock has been on the League list since 2019/20 and has yet to take charge of a match at a level higher than L1 or Round 2 of the FA and League Cups, so he doesn’t seem to be showing any sign of progress.

3. Us. For me, yesterday demonstrated the value of having a strong bench. I thought all subs made an impact yesterday, even Hamer in his 10 minutes or so. It looks like a game of 15-16 players now.
