During their first season back in Sky Bet League Two, The Imps only managed to pick up one point against Mansfield Town. The first meeting was at Sincil Bank on Saturday 16th September, in front of a crowd of 9,563. Danny Rose was the Mansfield Town goalscorer in the 61st minute.

The match at Field Mill on Tuesday 6th March finished 1-1, in front of a crowd of 6,091. The Stags took the lead in the 49th minute, with Joel Byrom’s first ever goal for them. Ollie Palmer managed to spoil David Flitcroft’s first match in charge, scoring in the 90th minute in front of a sold-out away end. Luke Waterfall was sent off during the celebrations for throwing a bottle back into the stands. The Stags also finished the match with 10 men, when Rhys Bennett received his second yellow card in the 3rd minute of stoppage time.

Anyway, time for the Q&As!

Thank you to Mansfield Town supporters Connor and Adam for answering our questions!

(You can get to the second set of answers by clicking the name above or by using the “Click here for the next page!” button at the bottom of the page!)

First up, the answers provided by Connor!

How long have you supported Mansfield Town?

18 years roughly.

Where did you finish last season?

8th.

What do you think of your Manager?

I’m still not fully sure how much I rate Flitcroft quite frankly, definitely not the best manager in the division but not the worst either, something makes me anxious about him being our manager though and I’m not quite sure what. Nobody can deny he’s got Mansfield playing really good football though and the results have finally started to come, hopefully, it lasts and my anxiety goes away.

What are your hopes and expectations for this season?

Top Seven minimum, but really it should be top three considering the budget and players we have.

One(s) to watch?

CJ Hamilton – will be in the Championship soon and is going to make the club a lot of money. Neal Bishop has also been very good since joining.

Who do you think will finish in the top 7?

Not in this order: Colchester United, Mansfield Town, Lincoln City, Milton Keynes Dons, Exeter City, Bury and Northampton Town.

Who do you think will finish in the bottom 2?

Macclesfield Town and Yeovil Town.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

A club on a rare upward curve like Mansfield, saviour it.

What do you think the score will be?

2-1 to Lincoln.

What will your likely default formation and style of play be for this season?

3-5-2 has been our most played formation, we have finally sussed out how to be fluid and change it during the game to adapt though.

Random fact about your Club?

The One Call Stadium at Field Mill is the first place a competitive match was played under floodlight in this country (1930).

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Akinde without hesitation, the only reason we are not top of the table is down to a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Mansfield Town Supporter?

Proudest is absolutely demolishing Huddersfield Town back around 03/04 in front of 20,000, a perfect performance and a 4-1 victory.

Most embarrassing could be one of many getting thrashed by some team that plays in a park in the Conference, Hayes and Yeading beating us 4-0 in front of 300 people comes to mind.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Difficult one, maybe Tyler Walker because he gets some stick but he’s still put a few away.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

The only time I hear of them nowadays is after a big newsworthy event or an AGM. They played a huge part in mounting the pressure on Haslam back in the day.

Which was your favourite match involving Mansfield Town?

The Huddersfield match mentioned above.

Which was your least favourite match involving Mansfield Town?

Our last Football League fixture before relegation against Dagenham & Redbridge in 2008.

Will Field Mill ever return to being a four-sided ground?

Plans are in place, along with a hotel too – still unsure which one will be built first but the hotel does have planning permission.

If Steve Evans had stayed would you have achieved more last season? And this?

Almost certainly automatic promotion in my opinion and no chance at all we would have finished outside the playoffs, a lot of Mansfield fans like to believe otherwise out of pure hatred for the man.

Do you think your crowds are sustainable for a League One club?

Looking at the current attendances in L1 ours are already bigger than a few and it would increase so I don’t see why not? Our attendances have been increasing for a couple of years now, and will be getting bigger this season if we stay within the top 7.

Tyler Walker. Is he worth the rumoured £5k a week?

I don’t feel like I will be able to properly answer this until the end of the season.

Your worst and best David Holdsworth signing?

Worst could be one of many, Kyle Perry, Tyrone Thompson, Steven Istead, Luke Medley, off the top of my head.

Best has got to be Alan Marriott, he is still the best goalkeeper in my time supporting the Stags!
