Following Saturday’s 2-0 win away at Cambridge United and ahead of tonight’s match away at Blackpool, Michael Skubala spoke to the press.

Cambridge United: It was a very good, professional performance whereby the Imps dominated the game without the ball. The game could have been won by a wider margin but it was a match where the team had to get the three points which ultimately they did. It’s too early to pigeon hole league positions albeit the match was seen as an opportunity to get those points. It was the sort of game where there could have easily been a slip up resulting in a draw or defeat.
“It looked like we were in control most of the game”.
Striker Riches: MS likes to see his strikers scoring although it remains important that everybody chips in with goals and assists. It was pleasing to see Freddie Draper and Bailey Cadamarteri get off the mark and even though Jovon Makama hasn’t notched just yet, his all round contribution is excellent and he is playing really well. In fact the only reason he was substituted at Cambridge was because he was on a booking and the coaching staff were adamant that they were going to ensure Cambridge had zero encouragement to get back into the game, such as an inadvertent sending off.
It’s really good to have five strikers who all offer something different, in the building. Sometimes selection will come down to availability, other times it will be tactical. Looking at the skill sets of the forwards, MS highlighted that Rob Street who has been on the bench has been electric in training. Freddie Draper who has his goal is developing his own version of a striker different to his team mates, Jovon is great at link play, Bailey Cadamarteri running in behind. Then there is Ben House who is probably one of the best pressers in the EFL let alone League One.
“The fact that we’ve got that blend up top is really exciting”.
Injuries: MS revealed that Ben House could be unavailable for some time having confirmed he did sustain a broken nose following his collision with the Cambridge goalkeeper. Players have recovered from the illness outbreak leaving Dylan Duffy still hampered by an injury and the duo of Ethan Hamilton and Reeco Hackett-Fairchild still on track but not ready just yet.
Blackpool: The Seasiders are flying under new manager Steve Bruce, having won their last four games, scoring freely in the process. Steve Bruce is so experienced and that is evident in the way he sets his side up to be rigid and strong defensively whilst still managing to play exciting football and score the goals. He knows how and where to put players with MS expecting Blackpool ‘to be up there’.
The Imps will need to be strong defensively in combination with being good in front of goal.
“It’s definitely one if we’re on it, we get something out of”.
