Simon Says – Impact Players

The Simon Clark road show is aiming to take in another three matches this week including the Burton V Derby County fixture, as revealed yesterday. His immediate intention, to bring in two players who will make an immediate first team impact, as well as allowing us to field a bench with a little bit of experience. Quite how Peter Jackson had amassed a squad with so little strength in depth is quite honestly a joke. Giving youth a chance, given our fountain is one thing, when only two of Saturdays bench shave is another.

Young players need to be blooded not thrown in at the deep end, Lenell John-Lewis being a classic case in point. At 20 he has his strengths but his weaknesses are cruelly exposed time and again. Clark on the other hand has been quick to realise it is men again boys and brave enough, to speak out early. He has also been diplomatic retaining faith in a squad that needs some steel. He wants a counter attacking side who can play football and to do that you need a midfield who can win the ball. Those with the greater pocession will enjoy the greater chances due to territorial advantage. We also clearly need players who can be box-to-box.

The view is that SC will attempt to replace Connor in the short term with Estonian born attacking midfielder cum striker Henrik Ojamaa, who scored for the Rams reserves against Shrewsbury of all clubs last week. He also wants to see a midfield ball winner in the Worthington or O`Connor mould. The view is that the Imps need 3 players on 1-3 month loans in the midfield and attacking third, though a left back is not on the agenda despite Heath`s injury denying Brown his wide left birthright. Heath incidentally could be back in 2-3 weeks.
