Views from the Match Thread ahead of kick-off:

Chesterimp: “I suspect when the management team and board sat down preseason to identify targets, making good progress in this competition will have been a priority.

But after such a good start in the league, it becomes more of a distraction in this compressed season. Like the FA Cup tie, use available squad players, rest some of the key players, they’re all on-message so the likes of Howarth, Elbouzedi and Archibald ( if fit) will do a job and we have a good chance.

The ‘tough games’ take a break until Saturday, then we get a whole stream of them again, including Shrewsbury again next Tuesday, rather lose tonight and get 3 points then – though 2 wins ( and penalty practice?) would be nice.”

Scotimp: “Maybe Cotterill will take a similar view, and focus entirely on keeping Shrewsbury in League One; and perhaps he may feel it is not worth fielding a good side against Lincoln because their home record so far suggests they are unlikely to win? Lots of variables on their side as well as ours.”

clanford: “Believe the winners will pocket £20,000, which with the likelihood of remaining in tier 3 very high, makes this a hugely important game. Hope we progress on that basis alone.”
