Richard Butcher had been a loyal servant of a number of clubs and in spells at Lincoln City and Notts County he was firmly a fan’s favourite. Moving on to Oldham Athletic from Lincoln after two play offs he had a more mixed time but all who met him knew him as a totally likeable young man.
At 29 years old he should have had the rest of his life to look forward to and he was apparently really happy with his move to Macclesfield just over a year ago. Tragically he passed away earlier today.
