Lincoln and the present incarnation of Accrington Stanley meet for the nineteenth time on Saturday, the sixteenth time on league business. Lincoln hold sway with ten wins to five. Oddly, three of the most recent meetings have come in the Football League Trophy: in 2017-18 when Lincoln went on to win it, and again the following season when holders Lincoln were knocked out on penalties; and not forgetting City’s 4-0 win last month. Accrington have started well this season, although time off for a coronavirus suspension may have helped them initially to cope with a compacted fixture schedule. However, they will be playing two games a week almost to the end of the season in order to play their games in hand on most clubs.
Playing connections between the two clubs are relatively rare due to Stanley’s recent Football League membership. Stuart Bimson, Jamie Clarke, Gary King, Kern Miller, Bohan Dixon, James Caton, Shay McCartan, Tom Davies, Ross Etheridge, Matty Pearson, Elliot Parish and Gary Taylor-Fletcher have all appeared for both clubs in the last 20 years.
