The Imps travel down to Devon for Saturday’s fixture at Exeter City’s St. James’ Park for the first time since we lost 2-1 there on Saturday 6 December, 2008. Our last win there (1-0) was in May 1989, nearly thirty years ago! Mind you, we have only played each other four times since then.

Due to there being some building work going on at the ground, away clubs have been restricted to just 350 tickets each. In their first home league game of the season, Exeter beat Cambridge 1-0 in front of 4,282 spectators with a very creditable 318 Cambridge fans. Last Saturday saw Exeter take a point from Swindon at the County Ground leaving both teams on four points in equal third place. Lincoln’s start has been reasonable with a good draw at Wycombe followed by the home draw with Morecambe. Unfortunately, as I was on holiday, I missed both those games but my son, who went to both, informs me that Lincoln certainly should have beaten Morecambe and could have taken all three points from Adams Park had we been a little more organised with their free kicks! The highlights do tend to support my son’s theory.

I have a feeling that Luke Waterfall may well get to see some action for the first time this season, probably as a substitute with about 30 minutes to go, depending on the scoreline at that time and possible injuries. I see no reason why Danny Cowley would change the starting line up from last week, unless he knows something that we don’t. I also fancy Matty Green to notch his third of the season.

This will be my first trip to St. James’ Park and I am very much looking forward to watching the Imps back in the Football League for the first time. In terms of outcome, I cannot see us losing and a draw would be a more than reasonable result against a strong Exeter side, but I really do feel we can nick this in a low-scoring game. My prediction is 1-0 to City, Green to score.

Up the Imps!
