Portsmouth 3-2 Lincoln City: Views, Highlights & Stats

|

Views from PerthImp following the 3-2 defeat away at Portsmouth in League One: “Wow – what a game. A great advert for L1 football. Just unfortunate that a goalkeeping error and a bit of inexperience from a young player cost us the game. We outplayed Portsmouth at times and engineered some beautiful moves, maybe with one too many touches sometimes. I think, in the context of the season, this team has redeemed itself in the last few weeks. Although we have lost the last two games, conceding six goals, we have shown some character and skill showing we definitely don’t deserve to be in the lower reaches of this league. Cullen did play well up front but I’m disappointed MA (again) left it too long before bringing House on – he should have replaced Cullen about 10 minutes earlier. Has Wright’s mistake cost him a possible first-choice keeper place next season? Such a shame – we really deserved a point from that game. Oh well, on to the next game. Overall, well played Imps👏👏.”

WellingtonImp: “Back to back games conceding three goals in each. It’s not the time to be shipping goals, but at least we’re backing ourselves to commit players upfield to create chances. Just need to cut out the errors in dangerous parts of the pitch. Wright has come in and done really well for us, but has looked a bit raw in the last couple of games.”

hulloutpost: “That had most emotional responses covered. Some real quality in there amongst a couple of calamitous errors and that in the final analysis is what it came down to.

More positives to be taken from the game than not and errors aside that was probably our best half of the season, certainly from an attacking sense.”

Merthyr Imp: “Well, we deserved a draw on the balance of play overall.

Regarding Wright, I would never criticise a goalkeeper for NOT saving a penalty. As for his ability, I think he’s perhaps on a par with Josh Griffiths – has made some brilliant saves in the games he’s played, and his failure to hold onto the ball for their third goal today reminds me of Griffiths at Gillingham at the start of the season when he spilled the ball for them to score.

I thought Norton-Cuffy and Poole had good games, Fiorini had a better first half than second and Marquis played better than he has done recently. Well-taken goal from Bishop, but poor defending for it from Portsmouth.”
