It was revealed last November that Lincoln City Manager Gary Simpson just missed out on signing former Barnsley, Preston and Cardiff City Striker Jon Parkin on loan from Fleetwood Town. Unfortunately Simpson received a text message saying he was no longer available!

Parkin joined Fleetwood on a free transfer in June 2012. He made 53 appearances and scored 17 goals for them before being released the other day.

Should Simpson still try and sign Parkin? See what our Members have said on the forum!

Impish: ‘Yes, can’t see it happening though.’

imps_joe: ‘We have no chance of being able to afford his wages.’

cheshireimp: ‘I’d give him a go. 32 is not to old at all. Seems he’s scored goals where ever he has played. Definately a player worth a punt.’

Cricklewoodimp: ‘In my opinion he is too old. Some players can easily play to their mid thirties. Others, who don’t particularly look after themselves, will struggle. I think Rooney is a good example of this. Who on here thinks he will still be producing at the very top level, at 32?’

BrownImp: ‘Parkin wouldn’t be my choice for our target-man position. I prefer my big strikers a bit more mobile and capable of getting in behind down the channels. I’m not sure our defence are accurate enough on the ball to pick Parkin out with a good enough pass for him to bring down and hold up, and as our lone striker’s often left very isolated I think the ball would come straight back at us. Sam-Yorke showed us how pace can turn rubbish hoofs into effective long passes; a rubbish hoof to Parkin will be mopped up by any defenders with any sort of pace, or even a goalkeeper who’s quick-ish of his line. Unless we play with proper wingers, or go a bit less long-ball, I don’t think Parkin’s the sort of player that we need, even though I like him as a footballer.’

Luke Imp: ‘Wouldn’t say no, but I’d prefer a strong, powerful forward in the Vadaine/DSY mould.’
