Following Saturday’s 3-2 win away at Blackpool in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Nottingham Forest loanee Brennan Johnson looks like he was worth the wait. (Do you agree? You can discuss this topic HERE and get involved with the other threads on 100% Imps!) Apparently, we’ve been waiting to get that loan deal over the line for some time and from today’s performance, it was well worth pursuing. It shows how our recruitment policy is based upon getting the right players in, not just someone to fill a shirt number in the squad.

2. We’ve got players with a willingness to go for the win. I’d have taken a point today and certainly when we went 2-1 down but you could see the desire on the player’s faces that they weren’t going to settle for just the draw after Grant’s second penalty equaliser. It was very much get the ball back and go for the win. The defenders go forward for the corner which results in a Jackson header and Montsma finish. Two extra points taken due to this go for the win attitude.

3. We will concede silly goals this season. It’s the way the manager wants us to play. Get used to it. What you want though is a reaction to those mistakes, a desire to make up for it and that was clear today. Bridcutt cost us a goal, but his subsequent performance and leadership went a long way to get us the win. It might be that not having supporters getting on players backs in the stadium after errors such as today isn’t a bad thing. If we are allowed back in before the end of the season I hope that audible groans that were apparent last January/February time when we played out from the back don’t return. These players will do it well more often than they’ll mess it up.

Here’s what Retimp said:

1. Don’t put too much pressure on Roughan to perform every game. It may be prudent to give him a rest. Edun can obviously cover at left-back more than adequately.

2. This may be a talking point but we don’t have a goal poacher. It’s ok your centre half scoring but we created some good chances in the second half and a player like Tyler Walker would have taken some of those. Hopper is not a poacher he is a grafter. True Walker et all cost money. Is Scully that player? But how would he fit in?

3. Good to see our fitness playing a large part in going deep into games. This will be vital as games are coming thick and fast.

4. If I can give a 4th. This has been a tough start with the teams we have played, so we should not fear anyone. Confidence must be high.

And finally, here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. We are capable of scoring goals.

Crewe 2
Oxford 2
Bradford 5
MK Dons 2
Liverpool 2
Charlton 2
Blackpool 3

Who needs Tyler Walker?

2. Roughan is being managed well. He needs to play games to develop and has not looked out of his depth at any stage. However, as a 17-year-old defender, he will be targeted by other teams and MA is able to change things if he feels it wise to do so.

3. We look like we might be able to compete in the top half of the table. It’s early days yet and the table means little but we have played teams who I would expect to be in that half of the table without looking inferior.

In addition, we haven’t just got a bare eleven capable of this level, Edun and Anderson didn’t start but had a big impact yesterday. Walsh and Archibald have yet to really feature but are well regarded, while we also have other good young players to come through, some off to represent their country this week. There’s plenty to look forward to.
