“No-one can accuse us of hoof ball after that.”

Some of the views from our Match Thread:

NottyImp: “Swindon looked a half-decent outfit to me: we beat them 4-1.

Strong performances from players who are a definite upgrade from last season. Knotty Snr., a man of few words, summed it up: “We look to have signed some decent players”.

O’Connor looks assured, Andrade exciting and Anderson back to his speed-merchant best. I was pleased to see Green score after Pett – who looks much improved – set him up nicely. Akinde did well with a couple of decent runs and will improve.

Bostwick did well in defence and better in midfield – what a Trojan to have in your team.

A very pleasing win.”

Snats: “For 20 mins in the first half and 10 at the end that was as good as you could possibly hope for. Got a bit overrun in between but Bostwick was a beast and the moment he moved into midfield we regained control of the match. All the debutants were good, particularly Andrade, but nobody played badly. Early days but the signs are very good.”

Luke Imp: “Well, no-one can accuse us of hoof ball after that. Whether it stays remains to be seen and whilst we looked a little shaky playing it out from the back at times, it certainly wasn’t the long diagonal’s or balls into the channels.

Swindon had more of the ball before our penalty as Anderson ran basically the full length of the pitch and was brought down just inside the area. Akinde-pen with a calm finish.

The second ball set piece goal for Bostwick and we’re cruising.

Swindon get back in the game, probably undeservedly via a penalty of their own where the ref’s blown his whistle, the ground went quiet thinking it was a GK and it took the Swindon fans a good 10/15 seconds to realise what had happened. It looked on first viewing that it hit his thigh, or at the very worst, hit his thigh and his hand.

Second half Swindon again had their fair share of possession but it was easy to defend as they passed sideways and sideways without any probing.

Our third following a good move settled the nerves, and quite how our LB found himself in their penalty area in the 80th minute or whatever it was, I’m not sure.

A Green half volley soon after to finish it off as we sat well back in the final 10 minutes, although Swindon had the lost the plot at the back and I think we could’ve ended up with another had we gone for it.

Clinical from us with enough pace, flair and skill without compromising the strength and power that’s got us to where we are. It’s clearly a very technical side with Freck, Akinde, Andrade, Anderson, McCartan etc.

Swindon were akin to the good looking bird you seen in the bar that turns out of have nothing about her. It’s all nice and idealistic, as I call it, but it’s no good being pretty and passing it nicely if there’s no substance to it. It’s easy to defend against.

Doughty flitted between their best player, willing to drive forward, but at times their worse by taking too many touches and trying to do everything himself.

Matt Taylor vs Harry Anderson was a complete mismatch out wide and Anderson skinned him time and time again.”
