Ahead of tomorrow’s match at home against Morecambe in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they think The Imps need to do to pick up all three points.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. Same again, please. The way we played against Plymouth last weekend should be the template for matches. Movement off the ball. Forward-thinking passes and quick interchanges of play will undo the majority of teams in this division. The very slight but obvious changes to the tactics worked very well last week against a team who wanted to win themselves. It will be a different kind of team we face in Morecambe, but that doesn’t mean these basic ways of playing won’t work against them. It pleases the crowd as well.

2. Be patient. This is obviously aimed at the team but could just as easily be directed to the home supporters. Plymouth last week wanted the three points themselves and attacked. Morecambe obviously will be looking for a win but I don’t expect them to make so many forward forays. We have struggled in the past to break down teams who sit in and allow us much of the possession. This is why patience will be very important. If we try and play in the same manner as we did against Plymouth we will find a way through them and win the game. If we lose that confidence early because we can’t find a way through don’t throw that kind of style away. Keep going at it. It will work on Saturday as opponents who try and dig in and keep it tight for the whole game will tire.

3. Take your chances. Morecambe are the lowest scorers in the division with 14 goals in 18 games. They have conceded 28. They have however become that bit more difficult to score against over the last few weeks. Big early season losses have been replaced by battling 1-1 draws against Portsmouth, Derby, and Wycombe in their last few games. They are a team who have become very similar to how we changed our style for the difficult games through October. When you think back to the backs to the walls wins at Ipswich and Barnsley, the opponents had chances but didn’t take them. We will be the Ipswich’s and Barnsley’s this coming Saturday. We need to do what they failed to do and take the chances that are created. Do that and we will win.
