MK: “It’s something we value and respect very highly.”

Mark Kennedy was pleased with the work done at Portsmouth and outlined where the Carabao Cup sits in the club priorities ahead of the midweek first-round tie versus Doncaster Rovers.

You can discuss what Mark Kennedy has said ahead of this match HERE, as well as get involved with our pre-match threads: You can post your score predictions, and discuss the starting XI.

Portsmouth: “It was great character, great grit, determination, togetherness; all those buzz words that us coaches use……..It was a really positive point, clean sheet away from home, really good opposition. Tough, tough place to go in terms of what the fans bring to the game as well; so yeah we’re really happy but obviously quite evident what we need to make one point three points”.

Player News: There are no new signings to report but the hard work is being put in. Anthony Scully should be fit to train today although one or two other plays (unspecified) do need assessing. However, some more players may, or will be close to returning.

On Danny Mandriou, the player is expected to commence training today after approximately five weeks out through injury. DM is unlikely to be considered for match day selection until he has completed seven days of training unless the sports science team advise otherwise. In his favour, the injury to Danny can be seen in the context of a mid-season injury rather than one sustained pre-season (due to him being signed from The League of Ireland).

Carabao Cup Competition: MK was explicit in identifying that the league, regardless of whichever club is concerned, has the league as a priority and there is no getting away from that. That said he was keen to establish the relative importance of the cup.

“The cup’s really important to us we take it seriously. We don’t look at it as an interference or a bump in the road in terms of what we’re trying to do. It’s a big competition; it’s something we value and respect very highly”.

MK intends to field a side reflecting that respect for the competition and as a point of context highlighted the excellent training facilities built upon previous cup successes.
