Following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away at Milton Keynes Dons in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

1. It is sometimes easy to overlook just how inexperienced our team largely is and they struggle to deal with in-game disappointments. The first half and hour on Saturday was a very good performance. A good goal was scored and we had opportunities to at least double that lead with some excellent incisive attacking. That wasn’t what was really impressing me in that early period though. We were really controlled and professional out of possession. Each player knew where the needed to be and although MK might have had quite a bit of possession they weren’t able to do anything with it. Then we conceded a pretty poor goal and that previous play fell to pieces. Passes weren’t finding the intended team-mate and some players seemed to lose confidence in their abilities. Their second goal immediately after the break compounded this. As a team, we need to quickly put in-game upsets out of our minds as they do affect performances.

2. Having said that it is incredible how often this season we are on the other end 1 goal loss and in so many of those matches we could so easily have walked away with at least one point and maybe more. Chances were made in the last twenty minutes which just didn’t quite fall for us and that can happen when a team is struggling for consistency and results. If a team is getting results one of those pinged crosses hits an on-rushing attacker or even a backtracking defender and ends up in the goal. We are still dealing with very small margins in every game we play this season.

3. We have some very decent supporters following our club as shown by the numbers who travelled last Saturday. But we also do have that element who I shall politely refer to as idiotic. Whoever thought it was a good idea to throw a flare into our supporters after our goal, into an area where children were enjoying that moment really needs to be named and shamed and banned from any attendance at our matches. We don’t need you as a ‘supporter’ of this great club.
