Milton Keynes Dons 2-1 Lincoln City: Match Stats & Views From The Forum

|

Views from PerthImp following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat away at Milton Keynes Dons in League One: “Awful game, awful pitch, awful referee & linos. Haven’t said it so far this season but for the first time, my view is that we are far too soft throughout the side. Its all very well having young players to develop but when they are U23 loan players and they just play pretty possession football, but haven’t got the character and effort to scrap it out, then I’m afraid we really are in a relegation scrap, and there are other teams that are better equipped than us. We need some experience. Sanders, again, has turned in a decent performance but will probably be out of the side next game. Maguire should have been on from the start. And finally, where was Jackson today? Disappointed to say the least. We go again Tuesday, but please let’s have a side who don’t just play football (occasionally) but one that has a bit of fight for the ball. If we have that I am sure we can start to put some results together.”

Brendan Bradley: “I missed the first 20 minutes as I had been at a much better game but that was decent enough for League 1 and could have gone either way.

As it was we’re not going to keep clean sheets when our keeper – who has many excellent qualities – throws one pretty much into our own net and has to be pretty much prised away from his goal line. This causes us no end of problems defensively.

I’m not blaming Griffiths, he’s a better keeper than we could otherwise afford, however, I could be more scathing about our outfield loan players, all of whom seem to get selected and I’m scratching my head wondering what they offer that’s any better than the players we have under contract?

For those who think we are really terrible, I always listen to the opponents commentary and they (like I do) thought we look a better team than our league position, which is poor for reasons that have been gone through many times before this season.”

mikeosullivan: “After a decent transfer window, its really all down to team selection now. We have the players to keep us safe, even with the injuries. But MA is one of the most stubborn managers around and I am concerned he will continue to play lightweights in midfield because he won’t admit he is wrong.

That in turn puts pressure on the defense, which has never been our strong point when we are under pressure.

We hardly ever dominate a game because we are so open in midfield. MKD were looking forward to playing us today, as must virtually everybody, as they know they will see plenty of the ball without many tough-tackling challenges.”

Imps2018: “I don’t get the negativity on this forum right now? We weren’t the worst team in that match by a long shot.

I’m confused by the criticism of Appleton on team selection? Fiorini had a great game in my opinion. Whittaker we know has game changing ability and Maguire is coming back from injury – hence Cullen started.

In all honesty – the ref is the reason we lost. Marquis is still in his ear about the pen we should have had in injury time. They got away with a handball in the box and McGrandles goal should have stood. Bishop, Scully and Fiorini all should have had free kicks in dangerous positions. It was just a s***show from him.

If Appleton wants to rant about it in his post-match I’ll pay the fine for him (although please don’t complain too much – I don’t have that much money).

On their fans, they were very poor and outsung by the Lincoln lot (who other than the flare, were fantastic).”
