Ali Smith has joined Sky Bet League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan.

The midfielder joined the Imps in the summer of 2023, making 25 appearances before spending the second half of the campaign at Colchester United.
City’s Director of Football Jez George said: “This is a good solution for all parties. As Ali’s contract is up at the end of the season, we wish him well at AFC Wimbledon and his future career.”

Like Imp: “As freebie punts that didn’t work out go, it wasn’t that bad really, was it?
Not at the level we need in central midfield, but did a job for us in his unnatural position in most of his appearances with us. Lacked a bit of physicality and speed of thought in his play at L1 level.”
Impish: “I thought he would turn out to be a really good signing here but alas it never really transpired. Changing the manager didn’t help and then being played in different positions that didn’t really suit or bring out the best in him really put him down the pecking order.
