Almost taking Lincoln City to the League One play-offs, Michael Skubala has earned plenty of plaudits for what he’s achieved in his short time at LNER Stadium.

Finishing seventh in the standings last season, Skubala has the foundations in place that could see the Imps mount a serious challenge for promotion in 2024/25.

Skubala Call The Right Decision

Sitting in the dugout watching Leeds United play in the Premier League against sides who have competed in the Champions League, Skubala will have learnt a lot in a short time in the caretaker role as the Whites’ boss. Facing some of the best in the business, Skubala will have had a taste of what it’s like at the top of the game. It doesn’t get any bigger at the top than elite European football and Real Madrid are 3/10 favourites in the Champions League winner odds to lift the trophy this season. Skubala saw his Leeds side face another club that knows what it takes to lift that Champions League trophy in the form of Manchester United, who football betting tips have at 28/1 to win the Premier League next season. His time in the Whites’ dugout was short-lived, but the coach proved he could handle the spotlight at a big club in the top flight.

From facing Manchester United, Skubala soon found himself as a head coach in League One at Lincoln City. Joining the club in November 2023, it has not taken Skubala long to implement his philosophy on the Imps. Nominated twice for the League One Manager of the Month award, Skubala took Lincoln from a side struggling for consistency and sat in ninth, to one that were only denied a place in the play-offs with defeat to Portsmouth on the final day of the regular season. While the campaign did end in disappointment against Pompey, there are certainly plenty of positives the manager can take forward into the 2024/25 League One campaign.

Onwards And Upwards

Now settled into his role at LNER Stadium and getting to grips with the challenges that League One provides, Skubala looks to be well-positioned to take Lincoln on to bigger and better things next season. This summer will be the first opportunity for the manager to get a full pre-season under his belt, while also looking to bring in new additions in the summer transfer window.

There might well be interest in Skubala over the summer months too, in what is always the time of the managerial merry-go-round. However, the 41-year-old looks to be committed to the project he has started at Lincoln and is likely to repay the faith in him shown by the club who gave him his first chance in full management.

The first six months have been positive for Skubala with the Imps and expectations at the club will be growing ahead of next season. With the foundations in place, a full pre-season and new signings over the coming months, Skubala’s Lincoln can certainly be in the picture for promotion next term.
