In addition to assessing the weekend fixture versus league leaders Wigan Athletic, Michael Appleton gave his thoughts on the League One promotion race and if he had a preference regarding which clubs secured the promotion spots.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Wigan Athletic: The leaders have stayed strong and consistent throughout the season. MA couldn’t recall Wigan having a bad run or poor results; if they have then they’ve bounced back straight away.

Their generous financial investment was widely reported on earlier in the season and they have benefitted from that, especially with the signing of experienced League One and Championship level players. Even so, Wigan still had to deliver and they have. Leam (Richardson) had to contend with financial difficulties and the threat of administration last year, so this season has been the complete opposite for him. He has done it and done it well.

League One Promotion Race: Rotherham and Wigan have been ‘up there’ all season but MK Dons have timed their run superbly.

“It’s going to be an exciting end to the season, looking forward to seeing how it all pans out”.

MA was asked if he had a preference about who got promoted with a view to a better configuration for the Imps next season.

“I would normally say yes…but then I look at about seven or eight other clubs who are probably not going to go up automatically and think what does it matter. We’re going to have to play some really top and big teams anyway, so whoever goes up good luck to them, and hopefully they’ll enjoy it in the Championship”.

Injury Round-Up: Max Melbourne still hasn’t been able to train on the grass so he will probably not feature again this season. The only football he will be playing is realistically likely to be next season. MA was able to provide better news concerning TJ Eyoma. His injury is coming along and if not fit for Portsmouth and Cheltenham, he should definitely be available for the last two fixtures against Accrington and Crewe.
