Michael Appleton was quite circumspect ahead of the midweek fixture versus Gillingham.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Gillingham Quiz, which can be found at the bottom of the article. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Recent Form: “Especially when you’ve got a young group the reality is at this moment in time, we’ve probably expected to have all this season on a regular basis. We’re pretty much there or there about…..What we added to the group was a little bit of real quality in terms of a couple of loans that we brought in that obviously gives us a bit of extra edge”

“When it’s not quite happening for us as in this moment in time when those questions are asked of the young players, it’s up to myself and staff; just to make sure they are getting the information they need; taking the right information on board, keeping that belief and staying as positive as they can”.

There have been slow starts recently for unknown reasons; possibly Imps have been missing the experience of Grant, Walsh and Bridcutt.

Player Fitness: Adam Jackson is creaking a bit and has gone through the mill in recent games; he needs to come out at some point. At the moment it’s about simply getting him physical and mental recovery between games.

“There’s a lot of responsibility on his shoulders in terms of the senior statesman back there”.

On Liam Bridcutt, MA confirmed that he is absolutely a contender provided he comes through one more day of training. Given the nature of the games coming up, it isn’t really (not) an option. Liam knows his body and is experienced enough to manage his way through a game if he has to play.

He will bring the voice of experience, positioning, plus opportunities when opposition attacks break down.

Gillingham: They play risk-free football in getting the ball front to back quickly. It’s between Vadaine Oliver and Charlie Wyke at being the best in the division at what they do. Imps have to accept they may lose a lot of first contacts. Therefore it is a big responsibility to win the second and third balls, something the players did exceptionally at Gillingham.

MA doesn’t feel Imps need to change anything too drastically but may have to be more pragmatic; adjusting as necessary. The key is to do it at the right time. The game against Gillingham is a prime example of that.

“We know what we’re coming up against, we know what we’re going to face, we know how they’re going to approach the game. The pitch is a little bit tricky for us at this moment in time so there’s certain areas of the field where I know they’ll want us to play in. We’ve got to be aware of that and maybe do something a little bit different”.
