Michael Appleton: “We won’t be dwelling too much on this game I assure you.”

Michael Appleton remained philosophical following the heavy defeat to Sunderland but also showed his steel ahead of the Shrewsbury Town fixture.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Shrewsbury Town Quiz, which can be found just below the three things. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Sunderland: Nobody likes losing especially when it’s a rarity like this season. Whilst it’s said don’t get too high or low after games it probably is easier to say that after a victory though.

Everyone is keen to get in and work on what needs doing. MA has identified a couple of recurring things which are being dealt with (in house) from the defeats, which can be eradicated to help us going forward.

There’s no point dwelling on the defeats though and it’s worth remembering it could have been very different if Imps had taken their early chances and the ‘non’ penalty. Those are the fine margins which can change games very quickly but it’s important how we react to them.

“We won’t be dwelling too much on this game I assure you because as I say we’ve got too many games ’round the corner to start worrying about what’s happened in the past”.

Shrewsbury: Their set up won’t change much from the last game even if their personnel do. MA takes very little from the recent meeting regardless of whether both sides were the same this time around. It’s a different game and their players would want to put right a heavy defeat.

Our approach will be to concentrate on what we do and remain diligent to opposition threats. “More importantly we will be looking for a positive response from Saturday”

There will be some changes from Saturday but MA highlighted there will be players looking to put right, what happened on Saturday.

MA wasn’t too surprised by Shrewsbury’s excellent victory over Hull. As expected the big clubs are clustered at the top with Imps lucky to be sandwiched amongst them. However, the mid-table and even lower table sides have it in them to beat the top teams on their day. Even more so this season when Covid, injuries and suspensions are factored in which will result in line ups being chopped and changed.

Connor McGrandles will be out for a couple of weeks with a calf injury. Don’t expect to see Liam Bridcutt or Adam Jackson back before the turn of the year.

Left Back Position: “There’s an opportunity there for someone to take the bull by the horns….really grasp their opportunity. Probably the amount of changes we’ve had there; I don’t need to tell you that I don’t feel somebody’s really taken that opportunity and really wanted to keep that shirt”.

MA highlighted that there was now a real chance for Max (Melbourne), Sean (Roughan) or Tayo (Edun) to take that opportunity.

He then backed his comments up by pointing out there is a transfer window around the corner which is a dangerous time for players. If a manager doesn’t feel he’s getting what he wants, that allows him to do something about it.

Early Transfer Plans: MA is looking at all positions, not just full-back, always seeking ways to improve the team. The planned meetings with the board are imminent to discuss what can be done given the current Covid affected finances.
