Michael Appleton: “That will be our attitude, clearly that’s been our attitude for the majority of games.”

Michael Appleton had a short, simple message ahead of the Shrewsbury Town match.

You can discuss what Michael Appleton said earlier today HERE, as well as many other topics on our 100% Imps forum! We have also published a Lincoln City v Shrewsbury Town Quiz, which can be found just below the summary. Every page view helps raise money for Lincoln City Football Club!

Target: Michael Appleton was straight to the point, wishing to keep it ‘dead simple’; let’s go and win the game. “That will be our attitude, clearly that’s been our attitude for the majority of games….Let’s win the game and see what happens from there”.

Everybody is aware of The Imp’s superb away record and that is something the team will seek to draw upon.

In an ideal world, it would be great to secure a play-off spot, which in turn would enable MA to ‘manage’ his squad during the remaining scheduled league fixtures. However as MA reminded people, there are usually lots of twists and terms and life is not normally that simple.

Shrewsbury Town: The Shrews like The Imps have had well-documented Covid issues but they are safe from relegation. MA full well expects to face a motivated side that will contain players looking for new contracts, others putting themselves in the ‘shop window’ and just as dangerously, playing without fear.

MA is ready for that whilst countering, “If we can recreate the performance levels we created on Saturday, we give ourselves a great chance of winning”.

Selection and Sundries: Liam Bridcutt and Tom Hopper could start but it is a similar position to that in which Jorge Grant recently found himself, i.e. if they start the game they won’t be able to finish. MA has to plan for a minimum of 4 games, rising hopefully to a maximum of 7. He will remain sensible and heed medical advice off the back of close monitoring over the next 48 hours, before coming to a sensible decision.

A few weeks ago MA entered into early contract talks with some existing players. They are on the backburner now as his full attention is turned to the games coming up. That isn’t a problem and the players fully understand the situation. They will have personally been involved in that scenario before, or seen team mates that have.

MA doesn’t doubt there will be some ongoing background talks between the players, their agents, and Jez George, but right now he will not be getting involved due to the importance of the games.
