Match Reports – Official Club Websites

Lincoln City OS:

“Matt Rhead was the match winner for The Imps who made it five wins on the spin at home in all competitions, the striker opened the scoring in the first half but Christian Doidge replied for Forest Green. However, in the second half it was to be Rhead again who scored what proved to be the winner meaning City see out 2017 in the top three of SkyBet League Two.

City started the game unchanged following the Boxing Day home win over Stevenage and within a minute of kick off, one of the scorers from the aforementioned home win nearly did it again. Alex Woodyard won possession back out on the left flank, Harry Anderson skipped into the box and hit a low shot across the face of goal which was almost turned home by Forest Green defender Mark Roberts but Bradley Collins was just in the right place to block.”

Forest Green Rovers OS:

“A Matt Rhead goal in each half proved enough to beat Forest Green in a fiery encounter at Sincil Bank.

Rhead opened the scoring early on and despite a first half equaliser from Christian Doidge, the hosts were able to pull clear with a second goal just before the hour mark.

Mark Cooper made one change to the side that played at Exeter last week as Mark Roberts came into the side in place of Callum Evans.”

Match Reports – What The Newspapers Say

Lincolnshire Live:

“Lincoln City ended their glorious 2017 in fitting fashion with a 2-1 victory over struggling Forest Green Rovers.

The victory ensured the National League champions and FA Cup quarter-finalists rounded off the calendar year in League Two’s automatic promotion places.

Striker Matt Rhead continued his excellent form with both goals in a game which Lincoln should have won by a far greater margin, given their dominance.”

Stroud News & Journal:

“EMBATTLED Forest Green boss Mark Cooper is planning major squad surgery as the January transfer window swings open on Monday.

With 2017 ending with a fourth straight defeat, Cooper is eyeing seven signings to try and haul his side out of the relegation zone.

Lincoln stretched their unbeaten run to seven as a Matt Rhead’s brace was sufficient to keep Forest Green rooted to the bottom of League Two.”
