He received an average rating of 2.795 following the 1-0 defeat at home against Shrewsbury Town in League One this season. Some of the comments can be found below:

sedgleyimp: “Missed the handball right on half time but being fair that was a decision the linesman should have made as the ref’s position looked obscured, which was not the case with the linesman. Let Shrews get away with both some naughty tackles and time-wasting. Chickened out on giving Whalley a second yellow for that one on Edun. Not good 3/10”

libertine: “2. As already said, blatant handball before half-time (linesman should have helped to be fair). So much time-wasting went unpunished, and to only add 4 minutes at the end was ridiculous. Several bad fouls by the Shrewsbury players but barely any of them booked.”

GreenNeedle: “Top Refs are at the top level not necessarily because they make the correct decisions but because they are consistent with their decisions.

This guy should be reffing Sunday league. Let them kick lumps out of us in the first half. The one on Scully when the hack came when not just the ball but Scully as well had moved a yard away from the point the tackle was aimed at.

Hand in a natural position? Well of course it is natural to stick your hands out to stop the ball get past.

Can’t blame him for our failure to turn 99% possession into more than 1 shot though so he can have a 2.”
