Adam Marriott scored a hat-trick for Eastern Counties League Premier Division side Godmanchester Rovers last night as they beat Milton 13-0 in a pre-season friendly.
Rumours surfaced a few days ago that the popular 26-year-old frontman had rejected the offer of a one-year deal with the Imps and had left the club and this news would seem to suggest that the former Stevenage ace has indeed severed ties with Danny Cowley’s men, as he has not joined the rest of the players at the training camp in Portugal.
He turned out for Godmanchester in a bid to keep himself ticking over, according to Rovers boss Ollie Drake, who told the Cambridge Evening News: ‘He’s had a few injuries in the past and he just wants to get himself match fit. He probably played for about 35 minutes and scored three goals.
‘We won’t be signing him. Obviously I’d love to, but he’s too good for this level and he should be playing League Two football. Somebody just needs to give him a chance because he’s a proven scorer when he’s fit. The boy’s got a huge amount of talent and is the best footballer I’ve worked with.’
