12/01/21: Lincoln City 4-0 Accrington Stanley (EFL Trophy) – 2 yellow cards

TOTALS: Matches: 11 Yellow Cards: 44 Red Cards: 4

He received an average rating of 8.2 following the 4-0 win at home against Accrington Stanley in the EFL Trophy last season. Some of the comments can be found below:

Impish: “ Other games you could easily have had 4 or 5 more cards. Let lots go when it was getting niggly, Bridcutt fouled many times in quick succession and got away with it two games running. Overall unfussy and didn’t really notice him which is a good thing. 7.5.”

Chesterimp: “ 8 as good as we’ve had this season, there was a period when it seemed to be the Accy midfield queuing to foul Grant but he kept it under control without resorting to cards or histrionics. Very impressive.”

Scotimp: “ Definitely a 9.

Referees are far more lenient in the FLT and allow the games to flow more. It produces much better matches to watch without the robotic card waving, so why can they not adopt the same approach all the time?”

Christopher Sarginson: 2021/22 Stats:

17/08/21: Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Cambridge United (League One) – 7 yellow cards
21/08/21: Exeter City 4-1 Bristol Rovers (League Two) – 3 yellow cards

TOTALS: Matches: 2 Yellow Cards: 10 Red Cards: 0

Christopher Sarginson was the man in the middle for 31 matches last season, showing 78 yellow cards and 3 red cards.

He showed six cards on two occasions: Barrow 1-0 Scunthorpe United in League Two (5 yellow cards and 1 red card) and Gillingham 1-0 Wigan Athletic in League Two (6 yellow cards).

Sarginson was the referee for 28 matches during the 2019/20 season. In those matches, he showed 74 yellow cards and 1 red card.

He was most card happy in the League One encounter between Lincoln City and Peterborough United on New Years Day in 2020, showing 8 yellow cards and 1 red card. The red card, of course, being for Siriki Dembélé, who had only been on the pitch about 30 seconds before being sent off.

During the 2018/19 season, Sarginson oversaw 44 matches, showing a total of 138 yellow cards and 8 red cards.

He was just a bit card-happy in the match between Shrewsbury Town and Oxford United (2-3) in Sky Bet League One when he showed 7 yellow cards and 1 red card.
