MA: “I’m not a fan, put it that way.”

Michael Appleton had an unequivocal view on the topical subject of B teams ahead of the clash against his personal bogey team, Bristol Rovers (managed by Ben Garner)Do you enjoy talking about Lincoln City? Start to the Season – MA is delighted with the staff, players and everyone’s hard work in the contribution to the excellent start. When he looked at the first 5 fixtures, MA’s thoughts were what a tough start it would be which it has been. it’s just that ‘we’ have been on the right side of the results. He was pleased in particular that a young new group has now demonstrated the ability to recover from going behind in a game. The players need to remain humble and continue their hard work.

It’s been tough for some of the players who haven’t been getting game time they deserve but there is a reason for that, namely the level those that have been playing are at. It makes it difficult for the other players to get in.

We are seeing the purpose of having a young squad. When MA had arrived at the club he had made an issue of reducing the squad age for a reason. He knew over time he would be running with a small squad that would have to be up to the task physically in addition to covering different positions.

Bristol Rovers: They were a bit of a bogey team when he was at Oxford. He played them a few times and despite winning a couple of games, not as many as he would have liked. They have spent significantly over the Summer and will arrive with a large squad over 30 to choose from. Rovers haven’t had the start they would have wanted but MA is confident they will be ‘up there’ as the season progresses with Saturday resultingly being a tough fixture.

Bristol will try and dominate the game physically, benefitting from dangerous players. It is up to the Lincoln players to match that. Imps are ready and prepared for them.

Other than the players known to be missing through injury and international duties MA didn’t have any new setbacks to report.

B teams: MA, ‘I’m not a fan put it that way’. The Championship alone has the 5th most fans of European leagues. Local clubs across the country are the hub of the community and MA can imagine for example what it means to people when their club get to the EFL final at Wembley. If B teams came in we would lose many of those hub clubs no doubt.

MA understands why big clubs are making the call but it’s a problem of their own making. Numerous players that have never made a competitive appearance are paid 5 or 6 times what top League 1 performers are on. They should either select those players for their first team or if not, that is why we have a loan system.

‘It’s time to stand up and say enough is enough. You do what you’re doing and we’ll do what we’re doing’.
