Following Tuesday night’s 3-2 win at home against Manchester United U21s in the EFL Trophy, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what Chimpimp said:

1. Anthony Scully opened his account against Manchester United with a typical poacher’s goal. McGrandle’s cross caused havoc in the box, coming off sprawling defenders and the woodwork. Who should be in the right place at the right time to tap in a simple goal but the Irishman? Lincoln have a fox in the box.

2. Anthony Scully’s second goal came from him finding space in the channels. A beautifully weighted long pass from Bishop, allowed Scully time and space to run at the defence. Not for one second did he have any thought but to make a shooting chance for himself. He had plenty still to do but maneuvered himself into a position where he could curl the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the box. Lincoln have a confident player who can score from in and around the edge of the box.

3. Anthony Scully’s third goal is one we’ve seen before. Crosses last year from the likes of Harry Anderson found the head of the diminutive striker. This time Remy Longdon put in a lovely cross and Scully again found space to nod the ball into the net virtually unchallenged. Lincoln have a striker who can get on the end of crosses.

Three different types of goals, one player. One player many will be looking at enviously. One way or another he is going to be a great asset for Lincoln this season.
