Following Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at home against Morecambe in League One, I asked the Vital Lincoln City members what three things they learned from the match.

Here’s what sedgleyimp said:

1. At this stage of the season all that matters is the result. Now I am sure that we’d all be delighted with a full ninety minutes of free-flowing attacking football and goals flying into the opposition net from all angles. In September of a season, you can even be happy with an excellent performance where the result just doesn’t quite go your way. In February when you are two points above the drop zone and playing a team in those relegation places it comes down to the very simple fact of getting those three points. The match itself soon fades into memory but the table reflects the win. That’s all that counts at this stage of the season.

2. Balance is vital. I mentioned it in the three things we needed to win thread and it was pleasing to see that MA clearly reads this forum and acted upon my sage advice. (I do realise that is not the case!!). It’s great to have an attacking threat but you also need the balance to deal with the opposition threatening you. That extra midfielder made the difference on Tuesday. Without that extra body, we could very easily have conceded again and gone on to lose that game.

3. A fit Joe Walsh makes a huge difference to our team. Our best defender without a doubt. He has been missed this season and I have seen a number of comments suggesting that we need to write him off and look elsewhere. It is clear from his return that he is a classy defender and one we really need to persist with. Keep him fit and we will be keeping more clean sheets to the end of this season which will keep our heads well above the drop zone.

Thank you to Graham Burrell and Lincoln City Football Club for the photograph!
