Lincoln City 2-0 Plymouth Argyle – Match Stats & Views From The Forum

Views from Merthyr Imp following Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at home against Plymouth Argyle in League One: “Not as good a performance as on Saturday – especially in the first half – and in the last 15 minutes or so of the half the main thing was not to concede a goal so we could re-group at half time. And that’s what happened, as once we took the lead we were more or less in control and Plymouth were never in it. Overall, a 2-0 win was maybe about right and with a bit more steadiness near the end, it could have been greater.

I’d give Johnson the man of the match, for winning the penalty which was more deserved a few moments earlier, his well-taken goal which sealed the win, and for creating what should have been a goal in the first half if others had been able to put the ball in the net.

Players who I don’t think put a foot wrong all match were Palmer, Eyoma and Montsma. I thought Bridcutt was fairly average for him, and McGrandles in the first half was about the worst I’ve seen him play. Hopper showed with his cross that led to Johnson’s goal that he can use his right foot when he wants to.”

PerthImp: “Great result over a decent Plymouth team. Not a brilliant performance but workmanlike with some occasional beautiful passages of play. They did enough to upset Plymouth and knock them out of their stride. Occasional poor passing but they did get into some great positions. Really difficult choice for MoM as, once again, nobody stood out and no-one was poor. I reckon Johnson edged it from Grant on the basis that it was Johnson’s penalty win and his goal that really changed the game. Up the Mighty Imps.”

hulloutpost: “Montsma was more impressive in some ways tonight by how we didn’t notice him as much. Won his battle early on against Nouble and then strolled effortlessly about the pitch for the remainder of the game. No last-ditch tackles or desperate blocks required. Good distribution short and long.

He looked a lot more settled and assured. The Rolls Royce Merlin engine was just throttling nicely tonight as it taxied along the runway.”

PortMacImp: “For long periods this game was much tougher than the final score suggests but once again Lincoln force a good side to run out of ideas. This team works so hard for each other and the pressing from the defence and midfield forced Plymouth to play the ball back into their own half time and time again. Bring on Ipswich.”
