Lincoln City 1-0 Macclesfield Town

Bohan Dixon seemed to line up as the lone striker in the second half with goalscorer Danny Rowe switched back to the left flank. Dixon for me was hopeless as a lone striker and a fail to recall him winning one header in the air or even really putting the Macclesfield defence under much pressure. Out in the wide areas he looked a fair better prospect, but centrally he was allowing the Silkmen a free ride to bring the ball forward.

As the game became scrappy the players became more and more edgy with a few small spats breaking out, the first of these saw Holyroyd spoken to before both Jennings and Rowe were cautioned for a similar petty and pointless spat off of the ball. Imps manager Gary Simpson made his second substitution of the match with Mo Fofana coming on for the recently booked and goalscorer Danny Rowe. This change seemed to signify that Simpson was happy to hang on to the narrow one goal lead.

A moment of huge contention for Macclesfield followed this change with Farman making a huge blunder in the Imps goal as a long range effort from Whitaker was pathetically palmed straight into the path of Holyroyd who smashed the ball into the net, but luckily for the imps and for Farman, the linesman raised his flag and the goal was ruled out for offside. I cant help but feel we got away with that one as from my position I couldn’t not see that Holyroyd was offside, but either way it was a terrible piece of goalkeeping from Farman. This moment did seem to affect the Imps number one as form then on his kicking came more and more erratic and wasteful.

Shortly after Dixon had a goal ruled out for offside after a cross into the box was headed to Dixon by Fofana but the linesman immediately raised his flagged and the Imps celebrations were short lived and the game resumed with a free kick to the visitors. Again, I could not be sure if Dixon was offside but it looked more plausible than Holyroyds disallowed effort.

Four minutes of added time was indicated by the white sleeved fourth official and as the game entered the final seconds of the match Mo Fofana was presented with a superb chance to run through on goal down the left side of the pitch. But he slipped at the crucial moment and in an instance that seemed to sum up a frustrating second half for the Imps in possesion the ref then proceeded to blow for the final whistle and ensure the Imps won 1-0 and kept their second consecutive clean sheet.

Next up for the Imps is Forest Green, who won 8-0 against Hyde on Saturday but struggled to a 1-1 draw away to Nuneaton tonight, a Jekyll and Hyde (no pun intended) set of performances from them!
