The Imps and Tamworth played out a, quite frankly, awful 0-0 last night at Sincil Bank in front of a bumper crowd of 2,603, which included around 500 students from the University. I doubt many of those will be returning following one of the worst games I have seen in a while where entertainment was not prevalent. Only 16 Tamworth fans made the trip on what was a mild evening and perfect conditions for football.

Imps manager Gary Simpson decided against changing the side that drew 2-2 away to Nuneaton on Saturday, this meant that the side went out looking fairly defensive with Foster alongside Nolan at the base of midfield and Todd Jordan, somehow, again on the left wing with Wright playing as the lone striker with Power just behind him. The match was refereed by Peter Bankes and Tamworth got the match underway attacking the empty Stacey West stand.

It is really tough to write about this match as there just wasn`t a lot going on, unless you like the ball aimlessly going up in the air off of a stray foot or Jordans head that is. The first Corner of the match went to the Lambs just before the ten minute mark; this was dealt with comfortably by Brown who cleared. Farman shortly afterwards saved a weak half effort from Todd to ensure the scores stayed level.

The Imps best move and chance of the match came from a powerful run by Miller down the right flank, he played a quick one two with Power to get in behind the Lambs back line on the right side of the box before hitting a fierce shot that was pushed on to the post by the keeper but the ball didn`t go out for a corner and Miller was forced to chase back and win the throw in. The resulting and predictable long throw was easily dealt with by the visitors.

Tamworth Winger Richard Peniket had calls for a penalty turned down after he rode a couple of challenges to get into the box before he was brought down in a congested penalty box. The ref waved play on before awarding a corner that was easily dealt with by the Imps defence as it sailed out for a throw in on the other side of the pitch for the Imps. The half came to a close with little excitement for the fans.

The sides returned for the second half with Tamworth making a change to their line up, Connor Gudger replaced Mark Wright. The Imps started brightly winning a corner just minutes into the half, but again this was wasted as it was punched away unchallenged. Peniket then went up the other end and hit a power effort into the side netting to ensure that there were no goals on show!

Another corner from Tamworth resulted in a great chance for the Lambs to take the lead, Richards-Everton had a powerful header tipped over the bar for another corner, and luckily Farman was well positioned to tip the chance over. The Imps made their first change of the match with the ineffective Wright replaced by Waide Fairhurst in a straight swap in attack.

The Imps came close to getting a goal when a Newton free kick into the box ended up at the feet of Foster on the right side of the penalty area, he hit a scuffed shot towards a ‘keeper less goal but the effort wasn`t good enough and it was easily hacked away by a Lambs defender about 4 yards in front of the line, it was evident that neither side were capable of scoring on this showing.

Tamworth’s second change came with Louis Harris replacing Lloyd Kerry with around 20 minutes of the match left to slug out. The Imps made their second change with ten minutes of the match with the entirely predictable switch of Bohan Dixon coming on in place of Jordan in another straight swap down the left side of the pitch. I am pretty sure Dixon has come on at the same time in every match this season, regardless of the score line or performance. The rest of the match played out like the 80 minutes before it, long throws, aimless punts and absolutely no quality. The ref finally blew the final whistle and put the crowd out of their misery.

A point gained, or, in my opinion 2 points lost against a really poor side who we managed to make look good. This was one of the worst games I have seen in well, maybe not too long at Sincil Bank. The lack of creativity and attacking intent is really starting to frustrate me now, playing players like Foster and Jordan out of position are just not working and haven`t at all so far. We may well be high up the table but it isn`t entertaining watching the Imps at the moment and last night was the bottom of the barrel in terms of entertainment. We had a few hundred first timers come to watch the side last night, I doubt many, if any, will be salivating at the chance to come back and pay full price to watch us on Saturday on the back of that!
