The Imps have come away from Brisbane Road with all three points this evening thanks to a late Ethan Hamilton goal (89′). In another game of two halves, the hosts were the better side in the first half, with City playing far better in the second to secure all three points.

Post-match reaction from the Match Thread:

PerthImp: “We got the win but with an awful performance. No quality at all, apart from Hamilton’s well-taken goal and Jensen’s goalkeeping with two or three great saves. Feel sorry for Orient- they deserved a point. I’ve said it before but I really don’t rate Smith and don’t see what he brings to the side. He looks almost every game as though he just strolls around as though it’s a practice match or friendly but then when he gets the chance to do something creative he just lacks the quality to break away or hit a decent pass, even simple ones. Hopefully, once the injury crisis sorts itself out or the January window comes we can replace him.”

imps_joe: “Well I’ll take that! We were much better in the second half, but a draw would have been a fair result. Orient had a couple of good chances.

Other than his chance, Makama had a good cameo. Jensen easily man of the match.

Skubala still has a lot of work to do. It wasn’t the worst game of the season, but for large periods was a fairly dull game (a summary of our season so far). On the upside, it is encouraging to see the players run to the bench after the goal. Hopefully, this win brings us some confidence and something to build on.

Great to see the return of the fist pump, helps improve the team fan relations!”

APHLCFC: “Very good result. Clearly a lot still to work on. However, it would churlish not to focus on the positives after that.

We stood up to the physical challenge from the opposition far better today than Saturday, for all the talk of Orient being completely different to Stevenage, I thought they were possibly even more direct. We certainly didn’t win every header or challenge but we did a much better job of mopping up the second balls and getting a foot in, we were much more aggressive closing them down too.

Jensen had a great game. Made the saves we’ve become accustomed to, but encouragingly, he seemed to be much more willing to come for crosses and dominate his area.

MS seems have made Makama aware that he’s massive and would probably benefit from putting himself about a bit. If that’s a sign of things to come, we could finally start to see a really useful player there. Well played young man.

All in all it wasn’t perfect by any stretch but the fight was there, the bravery was there and that gave us a foundation to get the late winner. Hopefully, confidence will flow back into them players going forward. Encouraging.”
