“John Akinde changed the game.”

|

Views from Joseph Lovett following Tuesday night’s 5-1 win at home against Bolton Wanderers in League One: “Few basic points, we were very complacent in the first half almost expecting a win. 2nd half we remained complacent, but Bolton came out fired up and scored a very good goal. From that, we looked far more up for it and Bolton only threatened from corners.

John Akinde changed the game, though Hesketh, who he replaced, was fairly poor. Once we scored the third they collapsed and we created chances at will. Good to see some very well worked goals and for Walker to score in 6 consecutive games is very impressive! Even though 5 – 1 probably flattered us, we could have easily scored more.

Finally, the most important and saddest part is that Toffolo must be leaving following the scenes at full time unless it was a ruse to get a standing ovation. I’m gutted, he was getting into the realms of Mark Bailey for me. He is a superb player and clearly a fantastic person. First half he was one of a few players that was making things happen. He’s as good going forward as he is defending and he will be sorely missed. The best left I can remember us ever having. Good luck Toff.”

More views from the Match Thread:

JT_LCFC: “I thought compared to recent performances at home we were at times a bit flat, including the atmosphere and dropped down to the standard of the opposition. BUT…when we attack with pace and numbers we are superb at times, and scored 12 in our last 3 home games is proof of that.

Some very good performers but the price of a clinical striker in Tyler Walker is worth its weight in gold, he wasn’t really in the game but with one quick shot, we are back in front.

As for Bolton well apart from set-pieces they were terrible, they looked unfit, sluggish and part from 10 minutes after half time they look resigned to League 2.”

Red Wimp: “Didn’t see that end result coming at 1-1, to be honest but remember those days when we didn’t look like scoring (about 3 weeks ago lol).

Took the edge of it a bit seeing Toff like that, replacing him like replacing two players.

Thought Darcy who scored for them was excellent, just turned 19, not sure if we could tempt him away.”

StrangelyBrown: “That was a bloody odd game tonight. Scoring early almost dampened the game and atmosphere (cracking move and goal from Harry A). We controlled the game for the first 30 mins or so. Last 15 of the first half were sloppy, disjointed (both teams) and lacked a bit of passion.

Their goal didn’t really reflect their endeavours (they really looked like a team who didn’t know each other) but our last 25 mins, after JA came on, were very impressive. Last 10 mins were excellent but they had wearied and given up by then so movement and passing was so much easier.

JAs best 25 minutes in a Lincoln shirt- he was unplayable.

Toffs was excellent particularly 2nd half.

Coventry looks a really good loanee for this season if MoC goes and is already linking well with Morrell.

Apparently DC was at the ground tonight assuming Toffs is heading to Yorkshire. Just hope they appreciate as much as we do.

MA post-match interviews are just a delight- there is no brashness, no showman, just plain, honest, straightforwardness. Without stereotyping (ok, with stereotyping), he is a typical Northerner. Says it how it is. So

We know Toffs deal is likely- just waiting on their offer to meet our offer
O’Connor is also just finalising his deal and will be gone.

Melbourne was signed specifically because Toffs was expected to leave and Melbourne has MA confidence.

Funny how scoring 5 tonight and knowing Toffs is leaving is nothing like as much fun as scoring 5 against the Tractor boys. Feeling a little deflated but in MA I am more and more convinced we have the right person to take us even higher.”
