It is no big secret that former Southend manager Steve Tilson will be looking to add to his City squad come the weekend.

With Josh Gowling playing well for Gillingham the return of the popular centre half is looking extremely unlikely. Danny Hone will be returning from Darlington but Tilly has not been impressed by the youngster and will still be looking to bring in an experienced central defender.

Adam Watts has not appeared to be the same defender since his injury and Moses Swaibu is not counting his chickens to be a regular starter so the search must be on for a leader at the back in the Guy Branston mould.

The problem for Tilly will be the dosh or more importantly the lack of it. Despite saying he was going to put his hand in his pocket if the right player came along Imps chairman Bob Dorrian has not apparently splashed the cash to date and despite a world wide search for an investor no one has come forward.

If the Bradford match got called off, unlikely but who knows, then a further shortfall of some £25,000 would be the result. The Hereford replay will allow some flex in the budget and certainly a win in the FA Cup clash followed by a win at Wycombe could be a green light for some further spending. Problem is the ‘ifs and buts’ and it is not something the Imps can depend on.

The January sales may be about to start but will the Imps be the first in the queue?
