Danny Cowley’s imminent arrival to the Lincoln City hotseat moved a giant step nearer tonight following the news that he and assistant-manager, and brother, Nicky have quit their posts at National League rivals Braintree Town.

The pair have handed in their resignations with the Essex side in preparation for heading north to Sincil Bank. A statement released by the Iron chairman Lee Harding said: ‘I would like to thank both Danny and Nicky for their efforts throughout their year at our Club. What they have achieved with the players has been remarkable. But it seems the offer of a £500,000 playing budget and full-time status has proved to be too good for them to turn down. I think it is an incredibly brave decision on their parts, but I really do hope it works out for them – they are good people.’

Lincoln have arranged a special fans forum for tomorrow night, in which it is thought the Cowleys will be revealed as the new management do of the Imps, replacing previous incumbent Chris Moyses, who stepped down at the end of last season.
