Views from Chimpimp following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home against Mansfield Town in Sky Bet League Two: “Earlier in the season we won a few games when we didn’t play well and on another day would have got fewer points. Today I thought we deserved all three points.
I have yet to see a side better than us.
In the last two matches, I feel there are signs we are beginning to work out how to use Akinde. He’s beginning to appear close to goal with the ball at his feet, which is when he should prosper. Just needs a couple of goals to really give him the confidence to kick on.
I can only see us getting better as the season progresses. The starting lineup today includes Vickers, Toffolo, Shackell, O’Connor, Pett, Andrade, McCartan and Akinde. None of these featured regularly or at all after Xmas last season. Therefore we have managed to get to the top of the league with a scratch side. After 20 or so games we are beginning to work out our style and will improve further.
With Rhead, Green and Gordon all looking a threat when they come on, we are in a good place.”
More views from the Match Thread:
Snats: “That stings. We played so well second half and definitely deserved to win. The defence was terrific. Usually, it’s us getting the late equaliser/winner but today the boot’s on the other foot. Hope we can use that second half performance to push on and win on Tuesday.”
imps_joe: “Gutting to concede so late in a game we probably should have won. I blame myself as just the other day I was thinking that we don’t concede many late goals. Second half there was only one team in it (which may have been down to their fixture pile. Up recently). What makes it even worse is playing sweet Caroline over the tannoy at the end! We had just given away 2 points!”
Skip155: “We’re in a good place being top of the league but an interesting league run for the rest of the year now only 2 at home and 4 away. Then the transfer window opens.”
