During their first season back in the Football League, The Imps picked up four points against today’s opponents Swindon Town. The first meeting of the season between the two sides was played on Tuesday 17th October at The County Ground, in front of a crowd of 5,864. The Imps won 1-0 that night, with Sean Raggett scoring in the 83rd minute.

The home match, which was played on Saturday 3rd February, finished 2-2, in front of a crowd of 8,909. Lee Frecklington put The Imps into the lead from the penalty spot (23′), following the dismissal of Matt Preston (21′) for a foul on Matt Green. Swindon went into the break ahead, with goals from Marc Richards (35′) and Ollie Banks (38′). It was looking like a defeat for The Imps against ten men Swindon, until Michael Bostwick scored in the 3rd minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2.

Anyway, time for the Q&A! Thank you to Swindon Town supporters Adam and Ben for answering our questions. You can get to the second set of answers by clicking HERE or by clicking “Click here for the next set of answers!” at the bottom right of the page.

First up, the answers provided by Adam:

How long have you supported Swindon Town?

Since 1998, my first game we lost at home to Birmingham City 1-4 and I have been going ever since.

Where did you finish last season?

9th in League Two.

What do you think of your Manager?

I think Richie Wellens has got us playing a lot better and quicker than under Phil Brown, we are stronger defensively, but we need to start winning games consistently.

What are your hopes and expectations for this season?

I would like to hope we make the playoffs at a minimum but unless we start winning games consistently, I think we will sadly be in League Two again next season.

One(s) to watch?

Laurence Vigouroux is an exceptional goalkeeper on his day, however, his attitude and his failure to command his box are his downfalls. He may have a great game tomorrow but then he tends to do stupid things which result in goals.

Michael Doughty provides a lot of assists, they have dried up recently but on his day, he is as good as any at unlocking tight defences.

Who do you think will finish in the top 7?

Bury, Milton Keynes Dons, Lincoln City, Carlisle United, Colchester United, Swindon Town and Exeter City.

Who do you think will finish in the bottom 2?

Macclesfield Town and Yeovil Town.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

A very strong side, nice club and decent fanbase.

What do you think the score will be?

Swindon to win 3-1. Richards 2, Carroll and Akinde Penalty for Lincoln.

Random fact about your Club?

We are the only club in the Football League to not share a letter with the word Mackerel.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Swindon Town Supporter?

The proudest moment would be the season we won the league under Paolo Di Canio, we played incredible football and had a great Cup run as well.

Most embarrassing would have to be when we consistently lose to a non-league team in the FA Cup, for example, 1-0 away at Histon or 4-0 to Macclesfield.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

Kyle Knoyle, he is a very steady reliable player and just needs more confidence as he has decent attributes for a full back.

Do you have a Supporters Trust and what role do they play at the Club?

We do, and I think they are very important to the club. They try and support the club in different ways but want what all supporters want and that’s a stable club. They are currently trying to help negotiate purchasing the ground from the local council which would be a brilliant step for the future redevelopments.

Which was your favourite match involving Swindon Town?

Probably the 1-0 win over Bristol City when they were unbeaten at the time and we deservedly beat them, the ground was bouncing and we played them off the park that day.

Which was your least favourite match involving Swindon Town?

Anytime we don’t beat Oxford!

Do you have a Former Players Association at Swindon Town?

We do and it was launched in October last year.

Do you think you’ll miss Sid Nelson?

Sadly, I think we will miss him massively. It’s not often you get players like him who throw themselves in front of the ball consistently and aren’t afraid to challenge. He may not be our player, but he was a warrior at the back.

Is Marc Richards other job as a youth coach at Northampton Town affecting his form this season? Should you move him on for someone else?

I think sadly it is, the travelling must be hard but as he is just coming to the end of his career, I guess he has to think of the next steps. He got injured in pre-season and I do think that has hampered his recovery because of his age. He scored last week and only time will now tell whether he can last for the rest of this season.

When are you going to put a roof on the Stratton Bank?

That is currently in the discussion I believe within the club and Supporters Trust that if we do buy the ground, they may finally sort this. However, I won’t hold my breath about that.

Has Lee Power’s buying of Waterford been of benefit to Swindon?

In my opinion, I don’t think it has anything to do with our club, I don’t see any benefit and have never understood why he purchased it.

Are the majority of fans against Power still?

Yes massively, the problem is he doesn’t speak to anyone for interviews, if anyone dared say a word about him in the papers or radio they get instantly banned, there are no lines of communication with him. Granted he has helped the club debt wise and we are in a much stronger position. However, we have made nearly 10 million in the last four years from transfers yet he doesn’t invest it apart from into his own pocket. He runs the club as a business and as long as he continues to alienate the supporters, the attendances will keep dropping and so will our club.

How did Kellan Gordon fare for you last season?

To be honest, he looked bright in some of the games he did play, he scored a few goals. But he was very lightweight, weak and inconsistent and it didn’t surprise me that we didn’t resign him.

Who is the one player in the last two or three seasons that you wished you’d kept?

I wish we had kept Nathan Thompson, he was Swindon through and through, he wore the shirt with pride and battled for it like it was war.

How valuable is Keshi Anderson to the Robins?

I like Keshi, I think he on his day can be unplayable however this is very rare, and I would be happy to see him gone. He isn’t a team player and his distribution for somebody from Crystal Palace is poor. Others may disagree, but I think for what we paid it was a waste of money.

What’s the best thing about Swindon?

Apart from the Football Club, we have the railway museum and the Outlet Village aren’t too bad, there are some nice villages around the surrounding area but other than that the town centre is awful.

What lane do I get in to go across the roundabout?

I would say take your pick and go for it as it is like dodgems, you drive and hope for the best. Seasoned Swindoners struggle and they’ve had years to learn it.
