Jeff Hughes capped off a memorable first professional season with the Imps by making his full international debut for Northern Ireland against Uruguay yesterday.

And the Lincoln left-back produced a decent display as Lawrie Sanchez’s men narrowly went down to a 1-0 defeat in Giants Stadium, New York.

Centre-back Gareth McAuley also made an appearance, coming off the bench for the last seven minutes in place of Colin Murdock.

Hughes received a booking on his bow, going into the referees’ notebook after half-an-hour for unsporting behaviour, while he was replaced in the 75th minute by striker Dean Shiels.
