“His best attribute is not being Steve Evans.”

And now for the answers provided by Chompy:

How long have you supported Peterborough United?

Since 1985. Phil Chard’s last game was my first. I was a Spurs fan as a lad but am glad I switched before it was too late. Being a lower-league supporter is way more fun.

Where did you finish last season?

One place outside the play-offs. We still had a chance of making them until the death but it would have been pointless. We’d never have won them and it would have set back the business we did in the summer, which was exceptional.

What do you think of your Manager?

He is Peterborough United, or at least has been since Darragh came in. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I wanted him a third time but we’re seeing a more relaxed and experienced version this time around and he’s given us back our identity in less than a year, an identity we’d completely lost under Evans. He had some shocking losing runs in previous spells but generally gives us exciting, attacking football. One more window and he’ll have this squad exactly where he wants it.

Who Are The League One Managers? No.15: Darren Ferguson (Peterborough United)

What are your hopes and expectations for the 2019/20 season?

I expect top six, to finish as the league’s top scorers and to have the Golden Boot winner. I’m hoping for top two and there’s no reason why not. We have the best starting XI in the league and our shortcomings are easily fixed. It’s been individual mistakes and poor game management that’s cost us since we kicked into gear. That’s easier to solve than having a team that can’t create.

One(s) to watch?

Way more than in recent seasons. Defender – Frazer Blake-Tracy. He’s taken a big step up in class in his stride and will go much higher again in the next couple of years.

Midfield – Josh Knight. A real coup getting him back for another season from Leicester and Marcus Maddison of course. He is the most naturally talented player in L1 by some way.

Strikers – Toney and Eisa each have nine goals through 11 league matches, so take your pick. Both are too good for this league.

Which teams you think will finish in the top six?

Pretty much as the betting suggest. Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Pompey and Posh for sure. I’m still not sold on Fleetwood Town, so will take Burton Albion and Rotherham United as the other two.

Which teams do you think will finish in the bottom three?

Bolton Wanderers have looked a mid-table side since they sorted their problems but are obviously gone. Southend United will do well to stay up and AFC Wimbledon likewise. No shocks there.

What are your thoughts on Lincoln City?

I never thought you were as good as your flying start and never thought you were as bad as it looked during the slump. Mid-table was what I was predicting pre-season and that hasn’t changed.

What do you think the score will be?

Pick a number. We’ve been on the right side of a 6-0 this season and you’ve been on the wrong side. Absolute guesswork but it won’t be 0-0 and I’ve had some chunky bets at double-figure odds on over 3.5 home goals and over 5.5 total goals. Let’s go for 4-3.

Random fact about your Club?

We hold the record for most points gained in a relegation season from the Championship. That one still hurts.

If you could steal one Lincoln City player for your own team, who would it be and why?

Jack Payne. He seems to have a worldy every time he comes to our place.

What are your proudest and most embarrassing moments as a Peterborough United Supporter?

I’m a big football bettor, so mine revolve around that. Proudest was winning the world on goal markets when we ripped Ipswich apart 7-1 that time.

Not embarrassing as such but the worst moment was having a Yankee when I was in the sixth form on Arsenal 16-1, Chelsea 9-1, Wolves 7-1 and Posh 16-1 for the four leagues, the season Arsenal won 2-0 at Anfield to nick it. I swear this is true, I crossed out Rotherham 12-1 for the fourth division and put Posh in instead. Posh finished a marvellous seventeenth. That cost me big time.

Who would you say is your most underrated player?

This season Mo Eisa. It’s the same as every club. A player gets labelled as being a certain way and mud sticks, even when it’s not deserved. Mo got ‘lazy and disinterested’ in early games but he hardly played last season and it was just rust.

The knockers soon found out how wrong they were but it doesn’t stop some idiots dragging it out after every defeat. As for the middle-aged gammon who stood up and shouted Ivan Toney down away at Oxford back in August…sheesh! There’s no hope for some.

Which was your favourite match involving Peterborough United?

For the reasons given above the 7-1 v Ipswich. Some of those crazy games from our last season in the Championship too though, especially the home game against Cardiff. More recently this season’s 4-0 demolition of MK away was pleasing.

Which was your least favourite match involving Peterborough United?

The away defeat at Crystal Palace that consigned us back to L1. That will never be topped.

What’s the best thing about Peterborough?

London Road. List ends.

Do you consider a match against Lincoln as a ‘Derby’ match or not?

Not especially but those over 50 might disagree. It’d be a distant fourth for me behind MK, Cambridge and Northampton.

Why is your nickname the Posh?

We stole it from Victoria Beckham…Otherwise, Google knows best.

The origins of Peterborough United’s nickname of The Posh are thought to date back to the 1920s when the team was known as Peterborough and Fletton. Player-manager Pat Tirrel said he was looking for ‘Posh players for a Posh team’ and the nickname stuck. The club were also known as ‘The Brickies.’ Come on you Brickies!

Alex Woodyard, is he all that?

Nope. Although you’d know better than me. He played twice as many games for you as he has for us. You’ve got to love his attitude though. Not many players get back in once Fergie has decided they’re surplus to requirements, but he’s done that, finding himself a role as the cover on the right side of the diamond. He’s an honest trier who belongs somewhere in mid-table at a club like Wycombe or Bristol Rovers.

What’re your thoughts on Barry Fry?

You’d get much stronger views off other Posh fans I’m sure. I’m indifferent. I didn’t like him much as a manager, when it was win one, lose win, draw one and team sheet bingo for way too many seasons, but he’s doing a good job now with the ins and outs.

Why do you think you seem to be able to get out of League One but not stay in the Championship?

It’s been a long time since we were there to be fair. We were unlucky not to remain last time though. Dwight Gayle would have stayed put and who knows what would have happened? If we go up this season it’ll be way tougher, as Luton and Barnsley are finding out. The Championship now is an extension of the Premier League and there are a lot of big clubs with big budgets. I’ll happily take the ride though.
